Beoordeling
Daags na het fantastische concert van David Byrne stond Father John Misty in Paradiso. Dat kon alleen maar tegenvallen. Maar dat liep (gelukkig) anders. Toen ik Father John Misty dit jaar zag optreden op het Best Kept Secret Festival was ik onder de indruk. Als hij nog eens zou komen ging ik ernaar toe.
Zo geschiedde. En hij stelde niet teleur. De muziek is steviger dan op de albums en wordt prachtig gezongen en het zorgde voor kippenvel. Tijdens de rustigere stukken was Paradiso muisstil: een prestatie van formaat. Op die momenten kwamen ook zijn teksten goed uit de verf. Mooie ontroerende taferelen, vaak met vileine humor, die in poëzie worden gevat (Last night I wrote a poem / Man, I must have been in the poem zone). Een uitstekend concert van een artiest die ik enorm bewonder.
