Recensie

Nadat de single Dounana viraal ging is Siba een artieste die ik bleef volgen. Vandaag verscheen haar eerste album, Parazeitgeist. Op 20 oktober ging Parazeitgeist de film in première. Zie de link naar de video onderaan dit artikel.

Siba licht het project en het idee van en over Parazeitgeist als volgt toe:

Parazeitgeist is a concept album told through seven interconnected songs, each serving as a chapter in a larger narrative. Together, they form a socio-political critique of the systems and structures that shape our lives, exposing the inequalities, contradictions, and injustices of our time. The album creates a dystopian world inhabited by two central characters: The Protagonist and The System. Their evolving relationship drives the narrative, transforming the album into both a personal journey and a broader reflection on contemporary society.

Musically, Parazeitgeist moves fluidly across genres and sonic landscapes, with each chapter adopting its own distinct sound to deepen the storytelling. Every song is accompanied by a poem, a carefully crafted soundscape, and a rhythmic language that reflects the emotional and narrative developments of that particular chapter. As the story unfolds, the music guides the listener through a dramatic arc, evoking a wide spectrum of emotions while immersing them in the album’s dystopian universe.

De muziek klinkt bijna koud en afstandelijk, industriële elektronica, techno, trip-hop, underground rap en folk muziek afkomstig uit de Levant. De boodschap gaat over vrijheid en onvrijheid, het hier en nu, corrupte leiders, de macht van geld, maar ook het geloof in de overwinning van het goede.

Voor de liefhebbers van Dounana, het enige nummer dat daar bij in de buurt komt qua instrumentatie, boosheid en strijdvaardigheid is C#6 Bow Down Mr. President. Maar vergeet de andere nummers vooral niet. Parazeitgeist is een indrukwekkend artistiek statement van Siba. Het enige minpunt is de lengte, slechts 19 minuten en 26 seconden…
